Somatic cell count is used as indicator of quality of milk. Most frequently an increase of SCC reflects an immune response related to intramammary infections. Plasmin-plasminogen-plasminogen activator (PL-PG-PA) is an enzymatic system activated during inflammation. The aim of this work is to evaluate PL-PG-PA system in relation to quality of milk. We determined SCC and bacterial flora on milk samples collected from 114 cows aseptically. We selected and divided samples in two groups: G1carachterized of SCC<100.000 cells/ml, absence of pathogens and G2 with SCC800.000 cells/ml. We evaluated the PL-PG-PA activity with enzymatic and colorimetric assay. The results of this study showed higher levels of PL and PA activity in G2 (P<0.001) and positive correlations between SCC vs PL and SCC vs PA (P<0.001).
