Livestock biodiversity : genetic and economic resources of Lombard territory

The work presents a economic-demographic census of Lombard native breeds after eight years of introduction of regional subsidies for conserving livestock biodiversity. The livestock evolution is shown beside the progress of supporting activities promoted by public institutions and private breeders associations and use-value of each breed. The research aim is to reveal the economical potential of each race and the differences between conservation programs, helping public institutions on choices about resources allocation and making breeder conscious of potential benefits coming from native breeds of each territory.
