Tracheal sleeve pneumonectomy was first performed by Gibbon in 1959 to overcome the technical limitations of resection in the case of tumors originating from the carina or the tracheobronchial angle. Other sporadic attempt were carried out by various surgeons with different techniques; only in 1972 Jensik and associates published the first important series. We report a series of 44 patients with survival rates comparable to patients submitted to pneumonectomy for the same stage of disease.

Abstract
