For a new policy of valorisation of mountain areas. The case of organic milk

Mountain areas are becoming increasingly marginalised and there is the risk that all forms of agricultural activity will disappear. The only solution is a change in business objectives and market approach if we wish to find the instruments necessary for the survival of this economic fabric which is essential for safeguarding the environment, maintaining socio-economic equilibrium and the continuation of a centuries-old agricultural tradition. In these areas, organic agriculture could constitute one of these instruments and contribute to maintaining an "active" presence on the land. The fact remains, however, that without adequate changes to EU agricultural policies regarding the complex and delicate socio-economic environmental system of the mountain areas, the prospects of further development are remote.
