The world’s population is growing rapidly, which means that the environmental impact of food production needs to be reduced and that food should be considered as something precious and not wasted. This is even more relevant for livestock production, which uses vast rangelands areas, one-third of the freshwater, one-third of global cropland as feed and is responsible for part of emissions from the food system. Moreover, an urgent challenge is the resource competition between production of food for humans and feed for animals, using all the technology nowadays available. “One nutrition” and “circularity” in agri-food production are key concepts to identifying sustainable solutions for human and animal nutrition.

Abstract
The world’s population is growing rapidly, which means that the environmental impact of food production needs to be reduced and that food should be considered as something precious and not wasted. This is even more relevant for livestock production, which uses vast rangelands areas, one-third of the freshwater, one-third of global cropland as feed and is responsible for part of emissions from the food system. Moreover, an urgent challenge is the resource competition between production of food for humans and feed for animals, using all the technology nowadays available. “One nutrition” and “circularity” in agri-food production are key concepts to identifying sustainable solutions for human and animal nutrition.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
