In oral French, the vocable là can be an adverb with a locative or temporal value: in both cases, là can function both as deictic and anaphoric. In addition to these two meanings, là can be used as a textual deictic to designate a portion of the text above. As a textual deictic, in some cases, là can have the properties of a discursive signal that allows either to link two text segments or to emphasize what has just been said. But what makes this polysemous vocable particularly complex is the fact that là it can express several meanings simultaneously. On the basis of a bilingual parallel corpus of contemporary French prose texts, accompanied by their respective translations into Italian, the article will present on the one hand the different emplois of the vocable là in French, and on the other hand the list of its most frequent translations into Italian.

Abstract
In oral French, the vocable là can be an adverb with a locative or temporal value: in both cases, là can function both as deictic and anaphoric. In addition to these two meanings, là can be used as a textual deictic to designate a portion of the text above. As a textual deictic, in some cases, là can have the properties of a discursive signal that allows either to link two text segments or to emphasize what has just been said. But what makes this polysemous vocable particularly complex is the fact that là it can express several meanings simultaneously. On the basis of a bilingual parallel corpus of contemporary French prose texts, accompanied by their respective translations into Italian, the article will present on the one hand the different emplois of the vocable là in French, and on the other hand the list of its most frequent translations into Italian.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
