La figura di Dante nell’immaginario delle strenne femminili di inizio Ottocento

The figure of Dante in the imagery of women’s strennas of the early nineteenth century · Christmas gift books are one of the preeminent products in the publishing world of the 19th century; mainly targeted to a female readership, they include easy reads that meet the prevailing tastes and fashions. One of the kinds of texts that are usually collected in such gift books are heavily-reworked stories from Dante’s life. This essay deals with some of them, looking into the choices, the writing modes, the sources and understanding thereof, and the purposes.

Le strenne per il capodanno costituiscono uno dei prodotti dominanti nell’editoria ottocentesca; rivolte soprattutto a un pubblico femminile raccolgono testi di facile lettura e che vanno incontro al gusto e alle mode dominanti. Una tipologia dei testi raccolti nelle strenne è costituita dal racconto, profondamente rielaborato, di episodi della biografia dantesca. Nel saggio se ne affrontano alcuni casi, analizzandone le scelte, le modalità scrittorie, le fonti e la loro interpretazione, le finalità
