Traduzir a microlíngua da medicina: o estudo de caso do gênero textual ‘laudo médico’ na combinação linguística português-italian

Medical translation in the Portuguese-Italian language pair represents a field of study little explored; hence, both the available resources and the theoretical studies supporting this translation activity are definitely deficient. From this premise, it is clear the need to explore this field of study and try to lay some theoretical foundations in aid of the translator for specific purposes. The objective of this article is to demonstrate, through a case study on the textual genre MRI diagnostic report, the greatest difficulties and translation challenges that a translator may face, demonstrating how the peculiarities of specific purposes language are related to both terminology and to discursive structures, as well as to extratextual elements. This is the very first result of a more detailed study on Portuguese-Italian medical and technical-scientific translation, which, through the study of comparable and parallel corpora, can lay theoretical foundations and practical approaches to deal with translation practice.
