Italian Fashion since 1945 : a Cultural History

In the course of the twentieth century, Italy succeeded in establishing itself as one of the world's fashion reference points, despite the centuries-old predominance of Paris and London. The book retraces the history of this success that has contributed to giving Italy a new identity at an international level. In order to understand the specific character of the 'Italian model' it is necessary to consider not only the aspects of craftsmanship and industrial production or the evolution of styles, but also the economic and cultural changes that have radically transformed Italy and the international scene within a few decades: the post-war economic miracle, the youth and political revolution, the consumerism of the 1980s, globalization, the ecology of the 2000s and today's difficult scenario.
