Introduzione

This Introduction addresses the issue of culture itself as a source of nourishment. Food will thus be discussed as a metaphor conducive to a multidisciplinary approach to learning and creative processes, as in Dante’s «Convivio» knowledge is, precisely, a form of nourishment. Accordingly, we will approach culture not only as a refinement of the individual, but as an all-encompassing strategy for producing meaning, touching on every aspect of human life: from rituals to the arts, from historical self-representations to forms of popular culture, and to the contemporary re-negotiations of material habits in our consumerist societies.

Il contributo rappresenta l'Introduzione al Volume «Cultura come cibo», che è nato dall'idea di sollecitare umanisti di diversa estrazione, letterati, antropologi, etnologi e filosofi su una riflessione che avesse come tema la centralità stessa della cultura, la sua capacità nutritiva, per riferirsi alla metafora del «Convivio» dantesco.
