This article is devoted to the problem of translating the French cleft sentence into Italian. In the first part, we will present the properties of the cleft sentence in French; in the second part, based on a bilingual corpus, we will illustrate the solutions adopted by professional translators to translate the French cleft sentence into Italian; in the third part, we will finally show in which cases and for which reasons in Italian we see the deletion of the focus present in the source text.
