Homoioteleuton, a peculiar rhetorical device, is rather frequent in the Decameron. It often has an effective expressive function, and sometimes an ideological one: as it does, for instance, when it provides with an antiphrastic sound Filomena’s list of feminine faults (First Day, Introduction). From this perspective, other misogynist passages of the book can be read otherwise. In its last pages, the paper focuses on Boccaccio’s directions as to the use of the motto, that must ‘bite as a sheep’ and not ‘as a dog’, as especially women know how to do.

Abstract
Homoioteleuton, a peculiar rhetorical device, is rather frequent in the Decameron. It often has an effective expressive function, and sometimes an ideological one: as it does, for instance, when it provides with an antiphrastic sound Filomena’s list of feminine faults (First Day, Introduction). From this perspective, other misogynist passages of the book can be read otherwise. In its last pages, the paper focuses on Boccaccio’s directions as to the use of the motto, that must ‘bite as a sheep’ and not ‘as a dog’, as especially women know how to do.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
