Il morso della pecora : strategie retoriche nel Decameron

Homoioteleuton, a peculiar rhetorical device, is rather frequent in the Decameron. It often has an effective expressive function, and sometimes an ideological one: as it does, for instance, when it provides with an antiphrastic sound Filomena’s list of feminine faults (First Day, Introduction). From this perspective, other misogynist passages of the book can be read otherwise. In its last pages, the paper focuses on Boccaccio’s directions as to the use of the motto, that must ‘bite as a sheep’ and not ‘as a dog’, as especially women know how to do.

Un procedimento retorico molto particolare come l’omoteleuto compare con una certa frequenza nel Decameron, in funzione efficacemente espressiva e a volte anche ideologica: per esempio nell’introduzione alla prima giornata, quando l’artificio vistoso conferisce un sapore antifrastico all’elenco dei difetti femminili pronunciato da Filomena. Questa chiave di lettura porta a riconsiderare anche altri luoghi apparentemente misogini dell’opera. L’ultima parte del saggio discute le indicazioni di Boccaccio sul motto, strumento dialettico segnatamente femminile, che deve mordere “come la pecora” e non “come ‘l cane”.
