Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is a cancer radiotherapy that uses epithermal neutron beams. For therapy planning, a preliminary determination of the absorbed dose in healthy tissue is necessary, separating the various dose contributions having different biological effect. An experimental method, based on Fricke gel dosimeters, for imaging the dose due to the fast-neutron component of the beam has been developed and the results obtained with a BNCT epithermal beam are shown, supported by Monte Carlo simulations.

Abstract
Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is a cancer radiotherapy that uses epithermal neutron beams. For therapy planning, a preliminary determination of the absorbed dose in healthy tissue is necessary, separating the various dose contributions having different biological effect. An experimental method, based on Fricke gel dosimeters, for imaging the dose due to the fast-neutron component of the beam has been developed and the results obtained with a BNCT epithermal beam are shown, supported by Monte Carlo simulations.Pubblicazioni consigliate
