Abstract

Using a low-noise technique based on the direct reading of current signals, small induced charge signals due to the diocotron oscillations of a pure electron plasma are measured in the Malmberg-Penning trap ELTRAP. The advantages of this technique in terms of sensitivity and noise reduction are shown.
