Several complications during limb lengthening are attributed to increased soft tissue tension. Despite the great adjustment capabilities of muscles, they are not able to follow the daily rhythms and extent of lengthening, and thus are subject to typical histological modifications. By means of surface electromyography, we investigated if muscle lengthening was associated with modifications in electrical activation. Some myoelectrical modifications were observed during lengthening. In particular, there were reductions in strength (due to a decrease in average rectified value) and in frequency (due to the displacement of the median frequency towards lower values)

Abstract
Several complications during limb lengthening are attributed to increased soft tissue tension. Despite the great adjustment capabilities of muscles, they are not able to follow the daily rhythms and extent of lengthening, and thus are subject to typical histological modifications. By means of surface electromyography, we investigated if muscle lengthening was associated with modifications in electrical activation. Some myoelectrical modifications were observed during lengthening. In particular, there were reductions in strength (due to a decrease in average rectified value) and in frequency (due to the displacement of the median frequency towards lower values)Pubblicazioni consigliate
