In String Analysis of Sentence Structure (1962), Z. S. This method of syntactic analysis will be applied to French by M. Salkoff, who publishes in 1973 Une grammaire en chaîne du français. In this text, nevertheless, there is no analysis of structures containing c’est. Those structures can be divided into three types: 1) the structures where the pronoun ce is the only subject of the verb être; 2) structures where the pronoun ce is related to an element dislocated; 3) clef and pseudo-cleft sentences. This paper presents a distributional-transformational analysis of 11 structures of the first type. Each structure is accompanied by a list of possible Italian translations.

Abstract

In String Analysis of Sentence Structure (1962), Z. S. Harris declares that « all the sentences [of a language] can be characterized as particular types of combinations of particular classes of elements » (p. 9).
Dans String Analysis of Sentence Structure (1962), Z. S. Harris affirme que « all the sentences [of a language] can be characterized as particular types of combinations of particular classes of elements » (p. 9).
