Polymeric materials have been widely studied as protective coatings to limit the process of deterioration of building materials exposed to the environment, especially due to water condensation, pollution and salts formation. In the present work, two kinds of hybrid polymeric-inorganic coatings have been developed to achieve improved performances in terms of water repellence and consequently damage resistance. Aging tests and exposure to a real polluted atmospheric environment have been carried out in order to study the durability of the coating systems applied in the presence of different aging factors. Moreover, properties of the coated materials have been studied using different techniques. The effectiveness of one the two hybrid coatings is demonstrated, especially in the case of the Hydraulic Lime Mortar.
