The subject of this article are the sources of the Aristophanic humour, i.e. the comic devices and the theatrical techniques which Aristophanes adopts in his plays in order to amuse the spectators and make them laugh. The article focuses in particular on two patterns which occur very often in the plays and have largely influenced the comic production of ancient and modern times (theatre, circus, cinema): the physical violence and the farcical routine.
