The history of consumption has flourished over the last 30 years, interweaving traditional historical methodologies with features from a range of scientific disciplines. Its interests have developed along a chronological arc stretching from the Renaissance to contemporary phenomena of globalization, in search of the deep social, political, and cultural meanings that various forms of society have over time assigned to the material culture.
