Abstract
The ascendancy of Gregory Nazianzen''s style is a sophist of the Antonine age, Polemon of Smyrna (Ieron. de uir. ill. 117) The examples listed in the treaties on figures demonstrate that Gregory''s neo-sophistic debt was fully recognized in practical rhetorical teaching. Anyway, in stylistic theory, Gregory''s style was related much more with the style of Demosthenes rather than with the neo-sophistic one. The study investigates the cultural reasons of this contradiction.Pubblicazioni consigliate
