Abstract
In Seneca's Dialogi and Epistulae, ludus (and in some occasions the ludus latrunculorum) is metaphorically joined to dialectic dispute, a silly activity unworthy of sapiens and set against true philosophy. So when in Julius Canus' episode (tranq. 14,4-10) we meet a philosopher playing chess and captiously joking in the moment of death, we had to distinguish his behaviour towards enemies and friends.Pubblicazioni consigliate
