Fruits were stored for 5 months at 6degreesC in air with or without ethylene removal. The fruits were evaluated at monthly intervals. Fruits stored in ethylene-free air had a lower decay rate and a better skin appearance and the number of fruits with a green calyx was greater. Also the same fruits had lower internal ethylene and acetaldehyde concentrations, higher acidity and a lower juice ethanol concentrations. Taste tests showed only minor differences between the treatments.
