Hirschsprung's disease is a chronic obstruction of the distal intestine due to an insufficient innervation, which stops the propulsive peristaltic wave. As regards histology, in most cases this disease is characterized by the lack of ganglion cells and by the presence of bundles of amyelinic fibers having an immature or degenerate appearance. The Authors present their case-study since 1961 to today: 11 patients affected with Hirschprung's disease. Symptoms were stypsis, diffuse abdominal pain, anorexia and subocclusive disorders. The surgical treatment in 2 Toupet recto-colon resection, 7 Swenson rectocolonic resection, 1 total colectomy, 1 anterior resection. The Authors stress the importance of preoperative serial endoscopic biopsies to establish precise diagnosis of Hirschprung's disease and to determine the segment of viscus to be resected.
