The possibility of forming an inclusion compound between acetaminophen and β-cyclodextrin by powder compaction has been investigated. The experimental results, obtained with a hydraulic press and a single-punch tabletting machine, clearly show that mixtures of included, amorphous and crystalline acetaminophen are formed. Thermal analysis was employed as the main analytical tool in order to follow phase transformation and interaction between components. The role of the intensity of impact in terms of forces, time duration and velocity is briefly outlined and discussed.

Abstract

The possibility of forming an inclusion compound between acetaminophen and β-cyclodextrin by powder compaction has been investigated. The experimental results, obtained with a hydraulic press and a single-punch tabletting machine, clearly show that mixtures of included, amorphous and crystalline acetaminophen are formed. Thermal analysis was employed as the main analytical tool in order to follow phase transformation and interaction between components. The role of the intensity of impact in terms of forces, time duration and velocity is briefly outlined and discussed.
