Scomposizioni e ricomposizioni territoriali: letture geografiche su Milano e la sua regione urbana

Globalization, which is rising the complexity and heterogeneity of the actual geographical, political, economical and social phenomena, also concerns Milan, considered as a “central place”, and its surrounding metropolitan area. Various socio-territorial “de-compositions” and “re-compositions” derive from these processes regarding Milan, the upper plain of the urbanized and post-industrial regions close to Milan and the southern areas of Varese, the lower plain nearby Milan, which was traditionally oriented towards the first sector, and even the “Parco Lombardo della Valle del Ticino”, one of the most important river parks of Europe and that constitutes a green reserve located on the western boundaries of the metropolitan area of Milan. The paper aims to highlight the ongoing socio-territorial changes which are occurring in the wide urbanized region of Milan.
