A clinical and microbiological survey at the aim of assessing the efficacy of vaccination to bovine trichophytosis was carried out in the Genetic Center A.N.A.F.I. located in Cremona province (Italy). On the whole, 211 bull-calves divided in 7 groups were included in the study and submitted to a double vaccination to Trichophyton verrucosum. At the arrival, 7calves showed specific lesions. Twenty days after the priming vaccination 24 calves resulted affected by specific lesion. Forty days after the priming vaccination 20 calves showed specific lesions again. In parallel to the diseased animals, a reduction of the lesion seriousness was detected. In addition, a high prevalence of clinically healthy calves showing T. verrucosum spores on the skin was demonstrates. Taken together the obtained data pointed out the vaccination can be considered as a useful tool to control trichophytosis in young cattle
