Abstract

The article deals with the interpretation of Dec. I, I, and stresses the role of double of the author which is clearly visible in Ciappelletto. The notary from Prato is in fact a «mezzano», an intermediary, as the «Decameron» itself and its author. The confession is an act of creativity, a parody of literature, conceived to undermine the boundaries between true and false and to remind the moralistical detractors of Boccaccio that only God can judge.
