Background: The quality of carbohydrate-rich foods consumed in the Mediterranean diet varies across countries within the Mediterranean region. This highlights the need for country-specific assessments of dietary glycemic index (dGI) and dietary glycemic load (dGL). Objectives: To develop a comprehensive and nationally representative dietary GI and GL database of selected European countries in the Mediterranean region. Methods: An artificial intelligence-enabled model developed by Della Corte et al. (2025) will be used to match glycemic index values from uniquely GI-tested foods within Mediterranean countries and from international tables with food items from nationally representative surveys of Mediterranean countries. Conclusions: The Mediterranean region dGI and dGL database will be valuable tool for public health and epidemiological assessments.
