This paper presents a proposal for teaching academic vocabulary to foreign learners, with reference to the Dictionary of Academic Italian: Textual Forms and Functions (DIA), the result of a PRIN 2022 PNRR project (Mastrantonio et al. 2024). The online dictionary is based on a specially compiled corpus of approximately 800,000 tokens, covering a range of subjects and divided into three text genres (research papers, university handbooks and encyclopedic entries). In this contribution, after briefly defining the concept of academic Italian and summarising the DIA, starting from an example text (a popular article) published in 2023, we propose a path for observing and establishing academic vocabulary for advanced levels of proficiency. The course is inspired by Nation’s model (2007; 2013), which has already been used in teaching English academic vocabulary (Coxhead, Hang Nguyen 2023). Finally, an adaptation of the actitivity for an intermediate level is proposed.

Abstract
Finally, an adaptation of the actitivity for an intermediate level is proposed.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
