A new dated autograph of the Pietro Bembo’s canzone «Ben ho da maledir l’empio signore». This paper offers the critical edition and the photographic reproductions of a new autograph witness of Pietro Bembo’s canzone Ben ho da maledir l’empio signore, discovered in St. Petersburg. It is a clean copy made by Bembo himself, who then added a series of corrections in the margins and in the leading. The new witness shows an early redactional stage, prior to the poem’s publication in the 1530 editio princeps of the Rime. The watermark and the intertextual connections with the Motti allow a new chronological hypothesis, suggesting that the canzone was composed when Bembo lived at the court of Urbino.
