Dreamed Voyagers and a Dreaming Voyager in Dante’s “Purgatorio”- The three purgatorial dreams can be easily analysed within the frame of mediaeval dream theory. In the meanwhile, Dante’s dreams are of course short literary texts, with a different re-use of textual elements and literary models. Thus, the three dreams can be seen as a rewriting of three different ‘mythological’ episodes, where the progression of the character in the otherworld topography is as well a progression in the typology of the dreams, as well as in their importance, clarity, message and purity of the dreamer. Specific attention is paid to the second dream and to the overall structure of the dreams as phases of the voyage in relation to Aeneas’ dreams and their structurally pivotal role.

Abstract
Dreamed Voyagers and a Dreaming Voyager in Dante’s “Purgatorio”- The three purgatorial dreams can be easily analysed within the frame of mediaeval dream theory. In the meanwhile, Dante’s dreams are of course short literary texts, with a different re-use of textual elements and literary models. Thus, the three dreams can be seen as a rewriting of three different ‘mythological’ episodes, where the progression of the character in the otherworld topography is as well a progression in the typology of the dreams, as well as in their importance, clarity, message and purity of the dreamer. Specific attention is paid to the second dream and to the overall structure of the dreams as phases of the voyage in relation to Aeneas’ dreams and their structurally pivotal role.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
