This article sets out to reflect on the intersection that Cristina Rivera Garza establishes between the excavation of memory, the vicissitudes of the body and the rearticulation of diverse spaces. In El invencible verano de Liliana (2021) body and memory work continuously between spatial cracks—Mexico City, Liliana’s apartment, the university, or the swimming pool—, to vertebrate, simultaneously, the textual or archival space. This is how this memory-body-text operation contributes to interpret and re-signify the diverse spaces that are revisited by the narrator to reconstruct Liliana’s life.

Abstract

This article sets out to reflect on the intersection that Cristina Rivera Garza establishes between the excavation of memory, the vicissitudes of the body and the rearticulation of diverse spaces. In El invencible verano de Liliana (2021) body and memory work continuously between spatial cracks—Mexico City, Liliana’s apartment, the university, or the swimming pool—, to vertebrate, simultaneously, the textual or archival space. This is how this memory-body-text operation contributes to interpret and re-signify the diverse spaces that are revisited by the narrator to reconstruct Liliana’s life.
Este artículo se propone reflexionar sobre la intersección que Cristina Rivera Garza establece entre la excavación de la memoria, los avatares del cuerpo y la rearticulación de diversos espacios. En El invencible verano de Liliana (2021) cuerpo y memoria trabajan continuamente entre grietas espaciales –la Ciudad de México, el apartamento de Liliana, la universidad o la piscina–, para vertebrar, simultáneamente, el espacio textual o archivístico. Es así como esta operación memoria-cuerpo-texto contribuye a interpretar y resignificar los diversos espacios que son revisitados por la narradora para reconstruir la vida de Liliana.
