Filmcritica: 1960-1970 : Bilancio di un decennio d’interesse per il suono cinematografico

This essay focuses on the reflections about film music and sound published in the journal Filmcritica during the 1960s. The journal provided a platform for intellectuals as Armando Plebe, filmmakers such as Alfredo Leonardi, and composers such as Vittorio Gelmetti, among others. Three conferences that significantly influenced the theory and practice of film music were organized by the journal’s editors. The conferences were held in Rome in 1964 (Cinema and Language), and in Amalfi in 1967 (Popularity Communication Revolution) and 1968 (The Sound Film or Amalfi 2). These conferences are viewed as the pinnacle of the critical reflection on film sound in Italy during the 1960s.
