This essay investigates the history of translating Antonio Gramsci’s work into Spanish and Catalan in Spain during the Franco dictatorship. From a descriptive perspective of Translation Studies, it will outline and systematise the history of translations from Gramsci’s death (1937) to the end of the regime (1975), investigating which texts were translated, at what times, for what purpose and who was in charge of translation and editing.
