In Khirkhilas de la sirena, Gamaliel Churata continues to rethink, after El pez de oro(1957) and Resurrección de los muertos (2010), an idea of nation, capable of confronting a nationalist discourse rootedin aesthetic and cultural homogeneity. In this way, Churata’s proposal, through an innovative language andre-signified Andean poetic forms, intervenes in redrawing ontological and political coordinates capable ofovercoming true ’myths’, such as, for example, the supposed ’death’ of the indigenous cultural legacy or thenotion of ’race’. In this process of (re)identification with the indigenous, the feminine, symbolised in thepoem by the mermaid, acquires a profound importance in cultural and linguistic transmission. Abstract

In Khirkhilas de la sirena, Gamaliel Churata continues to rethink, after El pez de oro(1957) and Resurrección de los muertos (2010), an idea of nation, capable of confronting a nationalist discourse rootedin aesthetic and cultural homogeneity. En Khirkhilas de la sirena, Gamaliel Churata continúa elaborando, después de El pez de oro (1957) y Resurrección de los muertos (2010), una idea de nación, capaz de enfrentarse a un discurso nacionalista arraigado en la homogeneidad estética y cultural. De este modo, la propuesta churatiana, a través de un innovador lenguaje y formas poéticas andinas resignificadas, interviene en redelinear coordenadas,ontológicas y políticas, capaces de superar verdaderos ‘mitos’, como son, por ejemplo, la supuesta ‘muerte’ del legado cultural indígena o la noción de ‘raza’. En este proceso de (re)identificación con lo indígena, lo femenino, simbolizado en el poemario por la sirena, adquiere una importancia profunda en la transmisión cultural y lingüística. El presente texto se propone, por tanto, indagar cómo la poesía no sólo se convierte enuna brújula de orientación identitaria social, sino que se vuelve herramienta imprescindible para reformular una idea de nación declinada al plural.
