Chrononutrition and metabolic health in paediatric age: a systematic review of the literature

As obesity and metabolic diseases have emerged as a global health issue for pediatric population, there is need to investigate physiological and behavioral aspects associated with their development Chrononutrition is an emerging field of research in nutritional sciences that investigates the health impact of three different dimensions of feeding behaviour regularity of energy intake during meals throughout the day, frequency (numbers of meals daily), and timing of food intake (actual time of meals). We carried out a systematic review to investigate the association between chrononutrition in cohorts of children and adolescents and a cluster of metabolic abnormalities such as obesity, glucose and lipid metabolism, blood pressure and CVD risk.
