The International Particle Therapy Masterclass is a training event promoted by the International Particle Physics Outreach Group (IPPOG) and supported in Italy by INFN. The aim is to introduce students to some of the medical applications of physics for the cancer therapy through conventional and non-conventional radiotherapy. For the first time in Italy, the INFN sections of Milan and of Calabria, supported by the respective universities, realized this event. In 2022 also the INFN section of Pavia, Pisa and Turin have joined this initiative allowing several students to take on the role of medical physicist for a day. The purpose of this article is to describe the organization of this event that was very effective to bring students closer to STEM disciplines. The results of the 54 questionnaires proposed to the participants were useful both for improving the event and for helping to understand gender orientation towards these disciplines.
