This article revises the critical topic according to which the characters of Cervantes’ Entremeses have a greater psychological depth than those of the preceding tradition. The analysis of the construction of the characters and the strategies from which laughter is generated in El juez de los divorcios aims to show that the complexity of the characters lies in the superposition of traits of incompatible stock characters. The construction of the characters, as well as the inconsistency of the development of this Entremés with the final song that evokes the traditional happy endings of restored honor and love, are analyzed as part of a humoristic proposal that is based on the principle of inadequacy.

Abstract
This article revises the critical topic according to which the characters of Cervantes’ Entremeses have a greater psychological depth than those of the preceding tradition. The analysis of the construction of the characters and the strategies from which laughter is generated in El juez de los divorcios aims to show that the complexity of the characters lies in the superposition of traits of incompatible stock characters. The construction of the characters, as well as the inconsistency of the development of this Entremés with the final song that evokes the traditional happy endings of restored honor and love, are analyzed as part of a humoristic proposal that is based on the principle of inadequacy.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
