The Foreign Legion, a corps of the French army, has been used on the front line since its creation during the wars of colonization and decolonization involving France. By 1946, an estimated 7,000 Italian Legionnaires participated in the Indochina War against the Vietminh. The present article does not aim to retrace the military events but to explore the paths and circumstances that led the Italians from the Foreign Legion to the opposing army or that, while remaining faithful to the French army, recognized the legitimacy of the war conducted by the enemy.
