The monastery of Sankt Gallen offers a privileged vantage point for the dissemination of texts in the Carolingian era, thanks to the preservation of a conspicuous portion of its medieval library and library catalogues. This article focuses on the circulation of Augustine’s De ciuitate Dei in the Benedictine monastery during the ninth century, and is divided into three sections. The first aims to outline a list of direct witnesses of De ciuitate Dei produced or preserved in ninth-century Sankt Gallen, by using the library catalogues as a guide. The second deals with the stemmatic relations of these copies with the extant tradition. Finally, Sangallenses florilegia, homiliaries and centones quoting De ciuitate Dei are explored, as well as some aspects of its reception by Notker the Stammerer.

Abstract
Finally, Sangallenses florilegia, homiliaries and centones quoting De ciuitate Dei are explored, as well as some aspects of its reception by Notker the Stammerer.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
