From this friendly meeting, portrayed in a picture of “The New York Times”, begins this article that will reflect on the growing interest for peace among a huge group of intellectuals around the world. These persons were able to create important documents as well as political propositions addressed to stop the escalation of the Cold War and the nuclear risk. Well represented by Picasso’s dove of peace, which appeared in all the correspondence of the World Committee of the Defenders of Peace, the meeting, that will be repeated in Moscow and Warsaw the following year, ended with a famous Manifesto in which we can read: «We have met, we have understood each other. We are ready and resolved to win the battle for peace, which means to win the battle for life».
