This paper focuses on the Latin verse funerary inscription of 12-years-old Constantina, found in Hippo Regius and dating from the 6th-7th AD. The metrical structure and the language of the epitaph are investigated, as presumably resulting from the collaboration of a literate ‘author’ with an illiterate scribe. Furthermore, the meaning of the Vergilian echoes featuring in the text is reexamined.
