The Digital Elevation Model (DEM) is a fundamental element of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), since it provides the spatial reference for the different layers included in the system (e.g., Environmental Impact Assessment) and related to the topography. In this paper an interpolation strategy based on an integrated deterministic and stochastic approach is described. The application of the method to the elevation set digitized in the area surrounding the power plant of Torre del Sale (Piombino) is discussed and its results are presented.

Abstract

The Digital Elevation Model (DEM) is a fundamental element of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), since it provides the spatial reference for the different layers included in the system (e.g., Environmental Impact Assessment) and related to the topography. In this paper an interpolation strategy based on an integrated deterministic and stochastic approach is described. The application of the method to the elevation set digitized in the area surrounding the power plant of Torre del Sale (Piombino) is discussed and its results are presented.
