With the growth of communication technology, the Internet of Things (IoT) has recently emerged as a new technology that allows a great number of things to be connected over heterogeneous networks. Conventional networks, however, face a technological barrier in efficiently handling such a large number of devices. The approach based on software-defined networks (SDNs), with its speed and flexibility, has recently been introduced into IoT to potentially achieve scalability and adaptability, resulting in the SDN-IoT, a unique IoT design. In this work, we propose a multiple-path routing model for the SDN-IoT that consists of two components: 1. A Multi-path source route discovery uses an estimation-based approach for connecting increased traffic to the SDN controller; 2. a Route Discovery is used for routing the packets. In this paper, the description of SDN-based QoS is first shown to highlight the unique features of this routing technique; then, the network model is presented to describe the paths transmitted from source to destination; finally, the performance analysis and evaluation of such system are done to show the improvement of the proposed model over the existing approaches, in which a bandwidth improvement and an approximate 17% decrease in packet loss ratio is highlighted.
