Populist leaders are currently using religious symbols in their political rallies in order to forge a common identity. Even if the growing prominence of religion in politics is evident in populist rhetoric, the re-politicization of religion is also linked with the paradoxes of the secularization process. This article investigates the link between populism and secularization arguing that in order to reject the populist threat post-secular society must rethink the secularization theory and enforce the pluralist principle.

Abstract
Populist leaders are currently using religious symbols in their political rallies in order to forge a common identity. Even if the growing prominence of religion in politics is evident in populist rhetoric, the re-politicization of religion is also linked with the paradoxes of the secularization process. This article investigates the link between populism and secularization arguing that in order to reject the populist threat post-secular society must rethink the secularization theory and enforce the pluralist principle.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
