Clinical considerations about materials used for surgical prosthesis relining = Considerazioni cliniche su differonti materiali per la ribasatura direita di protesi chirurgiche

OBJECTIVES. TO evaluate clinical procedures of three materials used for direct relining of surgical prosthesis pointing out their pros and cons. MATERIAL AND METHODS. 18 patients, divided into 3 groups of 6 subjects, were selected for the clinical evaluation of 3 soft lining materials (Hydro-Cast® Visco-gel®and GC Tissue Conditioner®) and were recalled after 1 month to evaluate the clinical characteristics of the materials used. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS. Although all materials showed a clinical efficacy in the short term, GC Tissue Conditioner® showed better aesthetics, easier preparation procedure and better longterm stability. Soft liners are commonly used by dentist to improve partial and total denture comfort and stability. Plasticized acrylics and silicone soft liners are the main groups. Even if several materials are available for the clinician, a great variability in terms of manipulation, colour, hardness, pigmentation, hardness modifications and patient acceptance could imply important differences and a difficult choice.
