Sesso, genere e oppressione di genere

The distinction between sex and gender has been introduced in the sec-ond half of the Twentieth century as analytical tool to describe the conditions of individuals living in societies organized on the basis of gender. Though, there is no consensus about those concepts should be defined. The article provides an analysis of those concepts. It considers two different perspectives about gender and defends the per-spective that identifies genders with objective social positions ra-ther than with dimensions of the subjective identities of individuals. That perspective permits a better understanding of the structural and universal character of gender oppression.
