Per un'architettura del Mitfühlen : La città tra emozione e relazione dalla 4E Cognition allo Sturm und Drang

In line with current reflections on the urban dimension, an increasingly compo- site and complex space due to the dynamics linked to globalization, the present speech aims to underline how the city is not to be considered as a mere agglo- meration of material and architectural structures, but rather as a space where architecture fully reflects the social dimension that inhabits it. Reflecting on the City of the future therefore means first of all reflecting on how to create places capable of integrating the architectural with the human dimension, Kultur and Natur, collective rationality and individual feeling (Gefühl). I will try to demon- strate how the roots of this new idea of the city – which actually reflects an anthropological idea that integrates the sensitive, intimate, emotional and indi- vidual nature of human beings with the material, social, rational and collective side of the urban dimension – can already be found in the German literature of the late eighteenth century, the poetic cradle of the ganzer Mensch-anthropology. Starting from the description of the architectural installation by Olafur Eliasson Your rainbow panorama, a material concretization of the 4E neurocognitive theory, the roots of this avant-garde vision of the city and of architecture will be traced in some key texts of the Sturm und Drang-period, such as Herder’s Plastik and Goethe’s Von deutscher Baukunst and Dichtung und Wahrheit. In these texts we will recognize a “bijective” and not dichotomous vision between nature and culture, feeling and action, in which the individual is an integral part of the surrounding environment and where therefore the city truly becomes – here is the real pur- pose for the urban dimension of our global era – a space for sharing emotions and relationships, that is to say a space for Humanity

Sulla linea delle attuali riflessioni riguardo alla dimensione urbana, spazio sempre più composito e complesso a causa delle dinamiche legate alla globalizzazione, il presente intervento si propone di sottolineare come la Città sia da considerarsi non come un mero agglomerato di strutture materiali e architettoniche a sé stanti, bensì come uno spazio dove l’architettura rispecchia appieno la dimensione sociale che la abita. Riflettere sulla città del futuro significa dunque in primis riflettere su come creare luoghi capaci di integrare l’architettonico con l’umano, Kultur e Natur, razionalità collettiva e sentimento (Gefühl) individuale. Si cercherà dunque di dimostrare come le radici di questa nuova concezione della città – specchio in realtà di una vera e propria idea antropologica capace di integrare e di non contrapporre la natura sensibile, intima, emozionale e individuale dell’uomo con quella invece materiale, sociale, razionale e collettiva della dimensione urbana – si possano già rintracciare nella letteratura tedesca di fine Settecento, culla poetica dell’antropologia del ganzer Mensch. A partire dalla descrizione della istallazione architettonica di Olafur Eliasson Your rainbow panorama, vera e propria concretizzazione della teoria neurocognitiva della 4E Cognition, si rintracceranno le radici di tale visione avanguardistica della città e dell’architettura in alcuni testi chiave dello Sturm und Drang, come la Plastik di Herder e le goethiane Von deutscher Baukunst e Dichtung und Wahrheit. In questi testi si riconoscerà una visione “biettiva” e non dicotomica tra natura e cultura, sentimento e azione, nella quale l’individuo risulta essere una parte integrante dell’ambiente circostante e dove quindi la città diventa davvero – ecco il vero obiettivo per la dimensione urbana dell’era globale – uno spazio di condivisione, emozione e relazione, ovvero uno spazio per l’Umano.
