Poul Ørum’s 'Komedie i Firenze' (1977, originally published as 'Komedie i Florens' in 1960) uses Dante’s 'Comedy' as a source of inspiration for both content and form. The novel imagines that count Ugolino’s grandson Anselmuccio survives the imprisonment and, years later, arrives in Florence to revenge his family. But Dante’s poem is present throughout the novel at various levels. The aim of this study is to investigate how Ørum interweaves his source into his text by means of various strategies, including: direct quotations; references to contents and figures of the 'Comedy' in the characters’ dialogues; usage of single episodes as both structural and linguistic narrative models within a new context and for different purposes.

Abstract
Poul Ørum’s 'Komedie i Firenze' (1977, originally published as 'Komedie i Florens' in 1960) uses Dante’s 'Comedy' as a source of inspiration for both content and form. The novel imagines that count Ugolino’s grandson Anselmuccio survives the imprisonment and, years later, arrives in Florence to revenge his family. But Dante’s poem is present throughout the novel at various levels. The aim of this study is to investigate how Ørum interweaves his source into his text by means of various strategies, including: direct quotations; references to contents and figures of the 'Comedy' in the characters’ dialogues; usage of single episodes as both structural and linguistic narrative models within a new context and for different purposes.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
